From a small beauty salon launched in Martha Tilaar’s garage in 1970, Ibu Martha, as she is fondly called, grew her business into one of the largest natural beauty group of companies in Indonesian under the name Martha Tilaar Group. She has been an icon for women empowerment supporting women in small business and championing the environment through her engagements on the board of the Indonesia Biodiversity Foundation: Kehati as well as on the National Steering Committee of the UNDP Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Small Grants fund. Ibu Martha has also served on the board of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. In 2018 DR. (HC) Martha Tilaar was also awarded the Sustainable Development Goals Pioneer award from UN Global Compact, for advancing sustainability from community development.
